NPB baseball: league calendars and authorised video coverage

Following Japanese professional baseball becomes easier when the competition, home club and broadcast territory are recorded together. NPB’s official schedule and the video provider’s match listing answer different questions.

Begin with the two leagues

The NPB English website lists the twelve professional clubs and provides separate Central League and Pacific League records. Use the club’s full name when searching: an abbreviation, sponsor name or familiar nickname can lead to an outdated schedule. The calendar also separates first-team events from farm baseball. A farm fixture is not a substitute for the senior game, even when the teams share a name and play on the same day. For a new follower, first choose the competition and then inspect the month, club and venue. This avoids confusing a preseason game with a regular-season result or a postseason meeting.

What the official 2026 calendar establishes

NPB 2026 schedule reference, checked 23 October 2026
EventPublished dateReading note
Central League opening27 March 2026Regular-season opening date
Pacific League opening27 March 2026Separate league, same opening date
Interleague period26 May–14 June 2026Home club remains important for video rights
Nippon Series schedule24 October–1 November 2026Scheduled seven-game window; later games depend on series progress

These dates come from NPB’s published 2026 overview. They are reference points, not a full fixture list or a claim that all scheduled later series games will be necessary. When a game is postponed, use the amended organiser entry. A hotel booking made against a preliminary schedule does not turn that schedule into a guarantee.

Pacific League streaming has a defined scope

Pacific League TV is a league-linked viewing route. The Pacific League Marketing agreement for 2023–2027 describes Pacific League-hosted regular-season and interleague games, the Pacific League Climax Series and selected preseason coverage. Its territorial statement distinguishes Japan-only partner distribution from Pacific League TV, which also includes overseas distribution. The identity of the home club therefore matters: a Pacific League club playing away at a Central League ground is not automatically covered by the same package. Confirm the individual game in the service before subscribing, particularly for interleague meetings.

Do not generalise a package to all NPB

A league-branded video product can be official and still have limited rights. Central League clubs and their home-game arrangements must be checked through their own official schedules and the broadcasters they identify. The Japan Series is another event with its own coverage announcements. The Pacific League agreement above should not be stretched to promise Japan Series access. A page selling “baseball” may also contain highlights, commentary or minor-league footage. Read the event name and the live-video label rather than relying on a sport icon. This guide does not claim an exhaustive 2026 worldwide rights map because the retrieved official evidence does not establish one.

Live, replay and archive are different

A live subscription may not include an unlimited historical archive, and an official archive may omit material available during the original broadcast. Check whether the service offers the full game, condensed coverage or individual plays. If reviewing performance, note which footage you actually watched. A highlights editor selects decisive or entertaining moments, so a highlight reel is not a representative sample of plate appearances or defensive chances. For statistics, retain the season, league, team and denominator: batting averages and earned-run averages are not percentages of all team events. Compare equivalent periods and use the official correction history when a scoring decision changes.

Practical viewing checklist

  • Identify first team or farm league, regular season or postseason.
  • Confirm the home club and exact venue on NPB’s calendar.
  • Verify that the platform lists the match for your territory.
  • Read subscription renewal, device and replay conditions before payment.
  • Use official club or league links for support; keep the receipt.

If travelling with limited mobile data, decide whether you need full video, audio or the official score service. Video can consume much more data, but the actual amount depends on resolution and provider settings; an unsupported universal gigabyte estimate would be misleading. Test your authorised device before first pitch and avoid entering account credentials into a search-result imitation of a streaming login. A match poster shared by a supporter is useful as a lead, not as the final source of access terms.

Keep a reliable season notebook

For each game, record the published date, actual played date, starting venue, final result and the source checked. Keep regulation play and any event-specific tie or extra-inning treatment attached to the competition rules. When planning multiple games, leave room for travel between grounds and do not assume every home fixture occurs at a club’s best-known stadium. A useful notebook also records where you watched and whether the footage was live or replayed. Updating that small set of fields is more robust than maintaining an undated list of supposedly universal channels. The official fixtures and current service pages remain the final operational reference.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pacific League TV cover every game involving a Pacific League club?

Do not assume so: the cited agreement focuses on Pacific League-hosted games and specified events. Check the exact fixture.

Is the Japan Series included in the same rights claim?

The cited Pacific League agreement does not establish Japan Series access. Use the Series-specific official broadcast announcement.

Can overseas viewers use the same partners as viewers in Japan?

The 2023–2027 agreement distinguishes Japan-only partners from Pacific League TV’s overseas scope; platform territory and match availability still apply.
